Description

Linear features of probable medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located along the watercourse, to the east of Bridge Street, on the south side of the village of Thornborough, and centred at SP 74616 33354. Linear features creating subrectangular enclosures along a watercourse to the south of Thornborough, a road leading from Bridge Street is visible on Ordnance Surveyors’ Drawings and the Epoch 1 mapping and is on the southern side of these earthworks. Some of the linear features may be natural, along the edge of the alluvium deposit on the watercourse, but also forming a boundary along the edge of an area of ridge and furrow earthworks. (1-3)
