Description

An extractive pit medieval/post medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was/were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located on the north side of the River Great Ouse and the Grand Junction Canal, approximately 360m west of Maids Moreton Mill, Maids Moreton, and centred at SP 71383 34465. The pits are shown on 1591 map of Maids Moreton, labelled as Sewell Pittes, and an Old Limekiln is shown on the Epoch 1 Ordnance Survey Map. Underlying solid geology is White Limestone, overlain partly by Superficial Deposits of Alluvium and Mid-Pleistocene Till. (1-5)
