Description
A probable post-medieval sand pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located within Oak Wood and centred at SP 90870 29139, an irregularly shaped extraction pit is 165 metres NW-SE and 26 metres SW-NE at its widest and covers about 3,519 square metres in area. Some 450 metres to the SSE is a documented ‘old sand pit’ recorded on the 1890- dated 1st Edition OS map, so it seems likely that this was also sand extraction (1-2).
