Monument record MBC45257 - Bank and ditch, approximately 280m north west of Thornborough Grounds, Buckingham

A bank and ditch, possible flood defences, of post medieval/modern date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located approximately 280m north west of Thornborough Grounds, Buckingham and centred at SP 72670 34220. The bank and ditch run for approximately 56m in total, with a small break at the southern end. The bank is in three sections measuring, from the south, 73m, 57m and 150m in length and approximately 3-4m in width. The ditches are on both sides approximately 1.5m with and these all cross earthworks of ridge and furrow, just above the flood plain close to the confluence of the River Great Ouse and the Padbury Brook. Modern land use is pasture and all the earthworks are still clearly visible on aerial photographs and lidar visualisations. These are not shown as a boundary on historic maps and soes not appear to be part of a wider feature, such as a trackway, and there is no similar feature nearby. (1-4)
