Description

A network of trackways of medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located to the south of Thornborough and centred at SP 74097 33347. These trackways fit in to the ridge and furrow earthworks of former field systems on higher ground to the south of Thornborough and one leads down to the site of a windmill (see MBC1792) and probably led in to the village, close to the Manor House. These are not shown on the 1813 Ordnance Surveyors’ Drawing of Wilmslow nor on the Epoch 1 OrdnanceSurvey map; the parish was inclosed in 1797 and the roads were likely rerouted at that time. The eastern end joins with Bridge Street on an existing footpath. (1-4)
