Description
Two extractive pits of post medieval/modern date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as levelled earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located approximately 480m west of Benthill Farm, Buckingham, and centred at SP 70079 32222. These pits look freshly cut earthworks in 1946 but have been levelled by modern land use. The southernmost pit was cut in to ridge and furrow earthworks and measures 28x34m at its largest; the northernmost was cut in to a level field and measures 43x39m at its largest. The underlying geology is Peterborough Mudstone overlain with superficial deposits of Till Diamicton.
