Description

A road of medieval/post medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as levelled earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located on the south side of Main Street, Padbury, and centred at SP 72013 30277. This road is shown on the 1591 map of Padbury running between Easte Fielde and Weste Fielde and joining another road, shown on Epoch 1 Ordnance Survey map, at Downe Crosse to the south. It would also have gone towards the site of a windmill in Downe Furlonge (see MBC11373). The northern end of this road is shown on the Epoch 1 Ordnance Survey map. This road splits before it joins Main Street which can also be seen in the line of boundaries on the 1946 aerial photographs; by 2003 a small housing development has been constructed over the farmyard, visible on 1993 aerial photographs, where it joined Main Street. The 1591 map shows plots in possession of Tho Harris who is recorded as a land owner in Padbury the 16th century. Joins Stocke Waye to the south (see MBC43579). (1-6)
