Monument record MBC45236 - Temporary ammunition dumps along the road between Adstock and Thornborough, approximately 220m south of Lone Tree, Thornborough

Temporary ammunition dumps of World War II date are visible on historic aerial photographs as extant buildings and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located Ammunition hutments along the road between Adstock and Thornborough, approximately 220m south of Lone Tree, Thornborough, and centred at SP 73630 33026. This line of six hutments is on the west side of the road; they are all parallel to the road and measure approximately 10x4m. The hutments were temporary and usually made of corrugated metal, covered and camouflaged and they are not present on the 1947 aerial photographs. There are 13 groups of hutments along the roads between Thornborough and Padbury and Adstock with a possible military camp near Coombs Farm, Padbury, which may have been to support these ammunition dumps (see MBC45223). This is conjectural and the buildings may have been associated with the brickworks to the north of Coombs Farm. (1-4)
