Description

Temporary ammunition dumps of World War II date are visible on historic aerial photographs as extant buildings and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located along the road between Adstock and Thornborough, approximately 940m east of Grange Farm, Padbury, and centred at SP 73639 31321. This group of nine hutments are on both side of the road. Three are parallel to the road and six are behind the hedge on the opposite side of the road set in pairs with the short side facing the road. The hutments were temporary and usually made of corrugated metal, covered and camouflaged and they are not present on the 1948 photograph. There are 13 groups of hutments along the roads between Thornborough and Padbury and Adstock with a possible military camp near Coombs Farm, Padbury, which may have been to support these ammunition dumps (see MBC45223). This is conjectural and the buildings may have been associated with the brickworks to the north of Coombs Farm. (1-4)
