Monument record MBC45228 - Temporary ammunition dumps along the road between Adstock and Thornborough, approximately 280m south of Coombs Farm, Thornborough

Temporary ammunition dumps of World War II date are visible on historic aerial photographs as extant buildings and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located approximately 280m south of Coombs Farm, Thornborough, and centred at SP 73411 32107. Six hutments are visible, measuring 8-10x4m and separated by approximately 10-18m; they are all situated parallel to the road. The hutments were temporary and usually made of corrugated metal, covered and camouflaged and they are gone by the time of the 1948 aerial photograph. There are 13 groups of hutments along the roads between Thornborough and Padbury and Adstock with a possible military camp near Coombs Farm, Padbury, which may have been to support these ammunition dumps (see MBC45223). This is conjectural and the buildings may have been associated with the brickworks to the north of Coombs Farm. (1-4)
