Monument record MBC45227 - Temporary ammunition dumps along the road between Padbury and Thornborough, approximately 520m south west of Grange Farm, Padbury

Temporary ammunition dumps of World War II date are visible on historic aerial photographs as buildings and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located along the road between Padbury and Thornborough, approximately 520m south west of Grange Farm, Padbury and centred at SP 72229 31213. The hutments are on the east side of the road, parallel to the field boundary hedge. There are two hutments measuring approximately 10x4m. They are parallel to the road and are gone by the time of the 1948 aerial photograph. The hutments were temporary and usually made of corrugated metal, covered and camouflaged. There are 13 groups of hutments along the roads between Thornborough and Padbury and Adstock with a possible military camp near Coombs Farm, Padbury, which may have been to support these ammunition dumps (see MBC45223). This is conjectural and the buildings may have been associated with the brickworks to the north of Coombs Farm. (1-4)
