Description

A possible military camp of World War II date is visible on historic aerial photographs as extant buildings and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located at Coombs Farm, Thornborough, and centred at SP 73318 32448. A line of buildings, possible accommodation for the thirteen sites of ammunition hutments sited along the road between Padbury and Thornborough and Adstock and Thornborough. The five buildings are approximately 10x5m and are spaced approximately 20m apart, except for the southernmost building which is close to its neighbour (possibly an ablutions block?). These buildings are still present on an aerial photograph from 1948 but are gone by 1961. There is also a brickworks near Coombs Farm so these buildings could be associated with that or the farm itself. No further evidence could be found. (1-4)
