Description

An extractive pit post medieval/modern date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located , approximately 730m east of Hedges Farm, Padbury, and centred at SP 71457 32084. Irregular shaped pit, 130x70m at its largest, cut in to Cornbrash Limestone on the east side of the Padbury Brook. Modern land use has mostly infilled the earthworks to extend the area available for arable crops; the extent of this is visible on lidar visualisations. The pit may have provided material for a field barn 220m to the east visible on Ordnance Survey Epoch 1 mapping but this is not present on 1940s aerial photographs. (1-3)
