Description

An extractive pit of post medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located approximately 380m north east of Coombs Farm, Thronborough, and centred at SP 73180 32752. Irregular shaped pit cut through ridge and furrow earthworks in to underlying solid geology of White Limestone and Forest Marble Limestone deposits. A limekiln, a quarry and a clay pit are shown on the Ordnance Survey Epoch 1 map nearby (see MBC12723) and a brickworks is on the east side of the road (see MBC12721). Irregular ground and soilmarks showing disturbed ground, are visible between this pit and the site of the brickworks and current aerial photographs show woodland has been planted on some of it.
