Monument record MBC45201 - Linear ditches and trackway of uncertain date and function, Stoke House Farm.

A complex of linear ditches of uncertain date and function is visible on historic aerial photographs as cropmarks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a large field immediately E of Stoke House Farm and centred at SP 88586 31437, a series of linear and curvilinear ditches extend generally W-E. A curving parallel double ditch, each up to 2 metres wide, are separated by about 4 metres and extends 64 metres W from the banks of the River Ouzel before turning WNW for a further 94 metres. This appears to be a trackway but its date is unclear. Cutting across this at the E end is a L-shaped ditch up to 2 metres wide that extends N-S for 25 metres before turning W for a further 68 metres. To the south of these features is number of parallel curving ditch sections that extend E-WSW. These features are located within a block of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation that were visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1947 but which have been entirely levelled by post-war agricultural practices. The curving cropmark ditches follow the same alignment as the furrows and are likely to be the remains of particularly deep furrows (1-2).
