Description

A square ditched enclosure of probable Iron Age or Roman date is visible on historic aerial photographs as cropmarks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field about 520 metres W of Stoke House Farm and centred at SP 87738 31310, a rectangular ditch between 1.5 and 3.5 metres wide encloses an internal area about 19.5 metres square. The WNW facing side is slightly curvilinear and 21.5 metres long SSW-NNE: the NNE facing side is linear and 17.5 metres long WNW-ESE: the ESE facing side is curvilinear and 20 metres long NNE-SSW: part of the SSW facing side and the SE corner is not visible on the available aerial photographs due to agricultural marks in the crop, but is slightly curvilinear and 15.5 metres long WNW-ESE (1).
