Description

A partial rectangular ditched enclosure of probable Iron Age or Roman date is visible on historic aerial photographs as cropmarks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field adjacent the railway about 280 metres SE of Skew Bridge Villa and centred at SP 87528 31093, three sides of a probable rectilinear ditch 1.5 - 3 metres wide has only 2 full sides visible as it is bisected by a WSW-EN aligned field boundary. The NW facing side is 57 metres SW-NE, the NE facing side is 57 metres NW-SE, the SW facing side is partial, being only 16 metres NW-SE, as is the SE facing side at 12 metres SW-NE, both being truncated by the field boundary. No evidence of the remaining parts of the enclosure are visible south of the field boundary on any of the available aerial photographs. Within the enclosure and to the north are scattered variously sized pits or macula that may be contemporaneous (1).

Incomplete cropmark of part of a large rectangular ditch-defined enclosure of uncertain date visible on aerial photographs at SP 8753 3107. The ditches are slightly irregular and of the three corners visible, one is curved and the others angular. The southern third is truncated by a modern field boundary and no trace can be seen in the field to the south. There are faint traces of a further ditch extending NE from the NE corner (2).
