  • DITCH (Iron Age to Modern - 800 BC to 1999 AD)

Description

A large ditch identified in both trenches is a possible continuation of a large ditch found at Prebendal House [CAS 02918]. This feature may represent an Iron Age hillfort ditch or Civil War defensive ditch. A single pit of possible late Saxon date contained 2 sherds of Saxon pottery. Medieval and early post-medieval pits and ditches were dated from small amounts of pottery sherds. No Roman features were identified but a single residual sherd of samian ware was recovered from a ditch containing mainly post-medieval pottery sherds (B1).
