Description

A medieval field boundary ditch and bank is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field immediately E of Barton Grounds Farm and centred at SP 62737 29662, the boundary ditch about 3 metres wide extends about 150 metres SE from the farm, on the NE facing side of which is a 3 metres wide earthwork bank that runs for 90 metres. This matches the course of a field boundary recorded on the 1813 Ordnance Surveyors Drawing but which has been removed on the 1881 dated 1st Edition OS map. The ditch then turns SW for 267 metres, with the earthwork bank along its SE facing side. The boundary ditch then turns SE for 55 metres, whilst the bank continues beyond this for a further 105 metres (1-6).
