Description

Two post medieval extractive pits are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field immediately adjacent Claydon Hill Farm and centred at SP 71732 27701, an irregularly shaped extractive pit is about 994 square metres in area immediately adjacent a much small subcircular pit about 59 square metres in area. These extractive pits appear to cut into a block of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks. The extraction does not feature on historic OS map editions. On recent remote sensing data and aerial photographs taken in 2019, the extractive pit still visible (1-3).
