Description

An alignment of five post-medieval extractive pits are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field about 1390 metres SE of Windmillhill Farm and centred at SP 72447 27540, three circular and two subcircular extractive pits are aligned roughly W-E over about 150 metres. From W to E the pits are 140, 132, 176, 160 and 337 square metres in area. The extraction does not feature on historic OS map editions and therefore likely dates to the first half of the 19th century or earlier. On remote sensing data taken in 2019, the extractive pit is still evident (1-3).
