Description
A linear alignment of three circular mounds of uncertain date and function are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field about 390 metres SE of Windmillhill Farm and centred at SP 72368 27397, the three very low earthwork mounds extend NW-SE over 125 metres. The central mound is about 12 metres in diameter. Some 75 metres to the NW, a circular mound is about 10 metres in diameter and some 41 metres to the SE a circular mound is about 8 metres in diameter. All three mounds are sited upon a large block of medieval and/or post-medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks, suggesting a post-medieval or later date. As the features are located on the crest of a ridge close to Windmillhill Farm, it is possible that these earthworks are windmill mounds, though this this is entirely speculative (1-3).
