- EXTRACTIVE PIT (Post-Medieval - 1540 AD to 1798 AD)
Description
A post-medieval extractive pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field about 180 metres W of Furzen Farm and centred at SP 73911 27620, an irregularly-shaped extractive pit is about 11,650 square metres in area. The extraction does not feature on historic OS map editions and therefore likely dates to the first half of the 19th century or earlier. On remote sensing data taken in 2019, the extractive pit is very shallow and its edges softened by post-war plough-levelling (1-2).
