- EXTRACTIVE PIT (Post-Medieval - 1540 AD to 1798 AD)
Description
A post-medieval extractive pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field about 380 metres NW of Furzen Farm and centred at SP 73745 27800, an irregularly-shaped extractive pit is about 4,782 square metres in area. The extraction does not feature on historic OS map editions and therefore likely dates to the first half of the 19th century or earlier. On the aerial photographs taken in 1946, the extractive pit is barely visible, being already very shallow and its edges softened by repeated plough-levelling (1-2).
