- EXTRACTIVE PIT (Post-Medieval - 1540 AD to 1798 AD)
Description
A post-medieval extractive pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field immediately adjacent Home Farm and centred at SP 72183 25906, an irregularly shaped extraction site is about 2,381 square metres in area and cuts through a block of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks. The extraction does not feature on historic OS maps and therefore likely dates to the first half of the 19th century or earlier. On recent remote sensing data the extractive pit is still visible (1-4).
