Monument record MBC45137 - Ridge and furrow field systems within the parish of Foscott

Ridge and furrow field systems of medieval and post medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks, levelled earthworks and cropmarks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located within the parish of Foscott and centred at SP 71831 35927. Ridge and furrow covered most of the parish on the 1940s aerial photographs, except for the areas of older woodland in the north of the parish. South of the shrunken settlement at Foscott Manor earthworks of the open fields remain as large and open grazing areas crossed by the medieval road, as shown on the 1814 Ordnance Surveyors’ Drawing of Stony Stratford, between areas of ridge and furrow. Further away from the manor house and church the land use has changed to arable and most of the earthworks have been levelled. Plough headlands, ditches and trackways are also visible within the earthworks. (1-14)
