Monument record MBC45134 - Ridge and furrow field systems in the parish of Lillingstone Lovell

Ridge and furrow field systems of medieval and post medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks, levelled earthworks and cropmarks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in the parish of Lillingstone Lovell and centred at SP 71337 40739. Ridge and furrow earthworks, visible on 1940s aerial photographs, cover a large part of the southern half of the parish around the shrunken settlement at Lillingstone Lovell and the fishponds at Hall Farm (formerly Lillingstone Hall) and at the moated site of Heybarne to the north (MBC5820). The northern part of the parish was more wooded and may have been part of the largest extent of Whittlewood Forest; Heybarne was an ancient assart from the forest where very little ridge and furrow has been found (only near Wakefield Lawn) within the bounds of the Forest as part of this project. Earthworks mapped are ridge and furrow, plough headlands, lynchets and drainage ditches across and around the ridge and furrow. (1-23)
