Description

Ridge and furrow field systems of medieval and post medieval date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks, levelled earthworks and cropmarks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located within the parish of Lillingstone Dayrell with Luffield Abbey and centred at SP 70398 39397. Field systems of ridge and furrow earthworks with plough headlands and drainage ditches forming field systems that formerly existed within the parish. Earthworks remain in parkland close to Lillingstone House but the extent of the former field system can be seen as earthworks on the 1940s aerial photographs; most have been affected by modern arable land use and ploughed level. A map of Lillingstone Dayrell dated 1611 shows the parish was fully inclosed and the settlement already reported demolished before this for the construction of fishponds. (1-14)
