Description

An area of managed woodland containing unmapped features of probable medieval date are visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located within Leckhampstead Wood, Leckhampstead, and centred at SP 72604 40158. Leckhampstead Wood is shown on Ordnance Survey Epoch1 mapping and on the Ordnance Surveyors’ Drawing of stony Stratford from 1814. The woodland has been enlarged from the earlier boundaries which exist inside those shown on the Epoch 1 map. The parish boundary between Leckhampstead and Lillingstone Lovell follows these on the western side of the woodland. No features which are shown on the Epoch 1 map (rides and trackways and one small area of ridge and furrow earthworks survive, formerly outside the woodland) have been mapped as part of this project, only those which were not recorded.
