Type and Period (1)
- DRAINAGE DITCH (Medieval to Post-Medieval - 1066 AD to 1798 AD)
Description
Two drainage ditches of post medieval/modern date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks, levelled earthworks and cropmarks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located at in and to the north of Grove Spinney, Leckhampstead, and centred at SP 73786 36516. The ditches to the north of the woodland join in to existing and infilled ditches around Grove Spinney; the ditch through the centre of the spinney is probably the earlier ditch through the woodland and it looks to join in to another group of ditches to the east (see MBC45076). The woodland is in a narrow deposit of Head, Quaternary clay, silt, sand and gravel, which may give more waterlogged soil conditions. (1-2)
