Description
An extractive pit of post medieval/modern date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located approximately 550m north of Akeley Pottery, Akeley, and centred at SP 71409 38684. Pit is on the west side of a watercourse and measures 54x28m and is cut in to an area of former ridge and furrow earthworks, visible on 1946 aerial photograph. A barn was located nearby on Epoch 1 Ordnance Survey map. The pit is cut in to Bliswoth Limestone. There may have been a trackway to the west, towards the road, but it is not clear enough to map.
