Description

A possible garden or orchard of post medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located south of Hill Farm, Lillingstone Lovell, and centred at SP 71482 39394. An area of trees is visible, some planted along a former boundary, on ridge and furrow earthworks in the corner of a field close to the river. These are noticeable because of blossom visible on some aerial photographs and where they are planted on the boundary. No field name evidence is available for this area, the boundary appears to be present on the 1814 Ordnance Surveyors Drawing for Stony Stratford. These may be fruit trees associated with the site of Hill Farm 500m to the north. The ridge and furrow earthworks shows linear features crossing them, along the contours; these may be the result of soil creep/landslip deposits similar to those recorded near Weatherhead Farm, Leckhampstead, where similar geological deposits are present.
