Description
Drainage ditches of post medieval/modern date are visible on historic aerial photographs as earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located between the Buckingham Arm of the Grand Junction Canal and the River Great Ouse, Leckhampstead, and centred at SP 74706 36189. Two straight drainage ditches are visible on 1946 aerial photographs as earthworks; one between an area of quarrying and a drainage ditch, which later becomes the main course of the River Leck, and the modified course of the River Leck and the River Great Ouse. The ditch between the extractive pit and the water channel is still visible on lidar visualisation, the other to the south of the drainage ditch has been infilled/levelled and modern land use is arable.
