Description

Two extractive pits of post medieval/modern date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and levelled earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located at the west side of Church End, Leckhampstead, and centred at SP 72196 37956. These pits are cut in to ridge and furrow earthworks. The western pit has been infilled/levelled by modern land use but the eastern pit is still visible clearly as earthwork cut in to ridge and furrow earthworks. The western pit is 39x19m in size and the eastern is 53x38m cut in to underlying solid geology of White Limestone, used as a local building material. (1-2)
