Description

A pillbox of World War II date is visible on historic aerial photographs as extant structure and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located approximately 520m south east of the Manor House, Akeley, and centred at SP 71625 37424. The pillbox is visible on 1946 aerial photograph but is not clear. The hexagonal base is clear on modern aerial photographs in use for a water trough on the boundary between two fields; both were pasture in 1967 but the modern land use on the southern side has been changed to ley pasture by 2004 and then arable after 2006. A section of the hedge between the field and the road has been removed to give a clear line of sight from the pillbox. Not enough detail was visible to identify the type of pillbox. (1-4)
