Description
A subcircular extractive pit of possible medieval/post medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant levelled earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located on the north side of the A422, approximately 480m north west of Leckhampstead Wharf, Leckhampstead, and centred at SP 73456 36248. Pit is subcircular and approximately 65m across. The underlying solid geology is limestone of the Great Oolite Group overlain by Superficial Deposits of Glaciofluvial Sands and Gravels. (1-2)
