Description

Two extractive pits of post medieval/modern date are visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located approximately 160m south of The Rectory, Lillingstone Dayrell with Luffield Abbey, and centred at SP 70274 39996. Both sides of the road to the church: south of the road 38x24m, north of the same 88x64m, both cut in to Blisworth Limestone with no overlying Superficial Deposits. South of the road land use is arable and the earthworks have been infilled/ploughed away; north of the road land use is paddocks and the earthworks are still clear on lidar visualisations and uneven ground is visible on Google Streetview.
