Description

A trackway of medieval/post medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks/levelled earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located north east of Hydelane Farm, Leckhampstead, and centred at SP 73275 35799. Ordnance Surveyors Drawing for Stoney Stratford (1814) shows a road at this location, called Hide Lane, the farm name on the Epoch 1 map, leading towards the Grand Union Canal, where Leckhampstead Wharf is shown on Epoch 1 map, and the River Great Ouse where Long Bridge is shown on 1814 map and Bridge Ground is a field name recorded in 1841. Crosses an outcrop of Great Oolite Limestone, overlain with Glaciofluvial Deposits, where uneven ground is visible and geology maps shows made ground at the site of a former quarry. (1-
