Description

An extractive pit of post medieval/modern date is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as levelled earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located approximately 500m south of Thornton Hall, Thornton, and centred at SP 75280 35759. The pit is a long, narrow, irregular shaped pit cut in to solid geology of interbedded Forest Marble Group Limestone and Mudstone. It lies just to the south of a road and possible boundary features associated with shrunken settlement at Thornton (see MBC45052). (1-2)
