Description
Woodland boundaries of medieval/post medieval date are visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and were mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located along the road between Shire Hill Wood and Lovel Wood, Lillingstone Lovell, and centred at SP 70087 41772. These boundaries run along each side of what is now the A413 and are wider than the road mapped on the Ordnance Survey Epoch 1 map. The earthworks are of a bank and ditch, with the bank on the woodland side of the boundary, along both sides of the road. The woodland these boundaries relate to are outside the extent of forest of Whittlewood shown on the 1787 plan but the width to the road these boundaries are similar to the roads as shown on that plan. This area is woodland on all historic mapping and all aerial photographs available to the project. (1-3)
