- EXTRACTIVE PIT (Post-Medieval - 1540 AD? to 1798 AD)
Description
A post-medieval extractive pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as levelled earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field about 885 metres E of Hillesden House and centred at SP 69631 28689, the irregularly shaped area of extraction is visible as a shallow earthwork and covers an area of about 7,884 square metres. Although it is just visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946, it does not feature on historic OS maps and so is likely to date to the early 19th century or earlier (1-2).
