Description

A post-medieval extractive pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as plough-levelled earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located on a field boundary on the N side of the Preston Bissett to Calvert road about 420 metres NE of Cowley Farm and centred at SP 66683 28380, the irregularly shaped pit is about 125 metres NW-SE and 32 metres SW-NE at its widest points, being an area of about 2,927 square metres. The pit does not feature on any iteration of the OS map series, so likely dates to the 18th or early 19th centuries (1-2).
