Description

A subcircular mound at the site of a possible medieval chapel is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and cropmarks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field about 380 metres NE of Cowley Farm and centred at SP 66525 28485, a very shallow and slightly ovoid mound is about 45.5 metres SW-NE and 39 metres SE-NW. A soilmark is visible at the location on a historic aerial photograph dated 1949 that suggest two slightly overlapping circles and a similar soilmark is visible on aerial photographs taken in 2015. Historic England's National Record for the Historic Environment record number 341024 documents that a chapel is said to have existed here, foundations of which are reported to remain in this field called Parsons Close (1-3).
