Description

A mound of probable post-medieval date but of uncertain function is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field about 260 metres SE of Three Bridge Mill and centred at SP 67637 26714 is an irregularly-shaped mound about 25 metres in diameter at its widest, sited within a field of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation earthworks. It is depicted on the 1880s 1st Edition OS map with a circular ring of trees growing around it and aerial photographs taken in 1946 shows that the mound still has trees going upon it. On aerial photographs taken in 2019 and recent remote sensing data, the mound is still visible but as a shallow earthwork, having been significantly plough-levelled. It is possible that this was a windmill mound (1-2).
