- EXTRACTIVE PIT (Post-Medieval - 1540 AD to 1798 AD)
Description
A post-medieval extractive pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in fields about 525 metres N of Briarhill and centred at SP 68347 27338, an irregularly shaped pit is about 187 metres W-E and 93 metres N-S at its widest points, covering an area about 13,317 square metres. It is visible as a shallow earthwork, but is not depicted on any OS map editions, nor on the 1813 OS Drawing, suggesting it was probably extant in the 18th century or earlier (1-2)
