Description

Graves Pit, a post-medieval extraction site is visible on remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located within woodland and centred at SP 62816 38878, an irregularly shaped pit is about 4,900 square metres in area. Neither the extractive pit nor the woodland is depicted on the 1814 dated Ordnance Surveyors Drawing but the woodland does appear on the 1884 dated 1st Edition OS map, possibly dating the period of extraction between these two dates. The woodland remains extant on aerial photographs taken in 2019 (1-4).
