Description

A post-medieval water drainage system is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located on a meadow between the north bank of the River Great Ouse and the mill race at Whitfield Mill and centred at SP 61750 39307, a series of linear drainage ditches up to 3 metres wides extend along the meadow for about 520 metres. Most of the ditches are aligned roughly N-S, perpendicular to the mill race and the river. On aerial photographs taken in 2019 and recent remote sensing data, two of the ditches have been partially destroyed by the construction of a large pond (1-4).
