Description
A circular pit of uncertain date and function is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in a field just east of Westbury village and centred at SP 62604 35834, a circular pit is about 21 metres in diameter and covers an area about 338 square metres. It is possibly an extractive pit, though does not appear on any OS map editions, so may date to the 18th century or earlier. Visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946 as what appears to be a cropmark and a pale soilmark in 1961, it is still visible as a shallow earthwork on remote sensing data dated 2019 (1-3).
