Description

Located in a field opposite Dirty Wild Spinney about 600 metres north of Evershaw Farm and centred at SP 63614 38924, the camp appears to have already been demolished by May 1942, as only the concrete building or hut platforms of 13 rectangular buildings laid out in 3 groups along the southeast and northeast field boundaries remain visible. The construction of the adjacent military airfield and satellite camps at RAF Turweston is taking place in 1942, so the military camp may be associated with that. One group of 5 building platforms, each about 10 x 4 metres, is located along the northeast field boundary and laid out in a regular pattern of two pairs parallel with the field boundary, sandwiched between which is a single platform perpendicular to the field boundary. A second group of 4 building platforms, each about 11 x 4.5 metres, are set out in a line parallel to the field boundary in its northeast corner. The third group of 4 building platforms, each about 20 x 6 metres, lies along the southeast field boundary in an irregular pattern. Despite continuing cultivation in the field, the camp’s building platforms remain just visible on aerial photographs taken in 1944 and 1946, but are no longer visible on aerial photographs taken in 1961 (1-4)
