Monument record MBC44894 - Medieval and/or post-medieval ridge and furrow cultivation, Biddlesden parish.

Medieval and/or post-medieval ridge and furrow cultivation is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in the northern half of Biddlesden parish and centred at SP 466134 240467, many of the blocks east of Red Ditches Farm were probably created in the 19th century, being straight furrows contained within post-inclosure fields. This reflects the widespread woodland cover of the medieval hunting forest of Whittlewood, which was still visible on the 1814 Ordnance Surveyors Drawing, but much of which had been felled and cleared for agriculture by the 1st edition OS maps in the early 1880s (1-10).
